Recovery After the Flood: The Homestar Group's Inverleigh Row Success Story
Oct 17, 2023

Though severe water damage happens daily across homes in Georgia, it’s not something to take lightly. Interior floods can create structural damage and promote mold growth, making your home unlivable until you’ve fixed the issue.

Because of those risks, having a nearby water damage restoration team you trust to act quickly and provide thorough fixes is vital. The Homestar Group specializes in disaster renovation and will help you recover from your flood.

This study looks at an example of restoration work we performed for a homeowner in  Intervleigh Row.

Project Description

On February 1, 2022, our team worked in a home in Inverleigh Row, Covington, GA, that had suffered severe water damage. By the time we arrived, the flooding had soaked through the hardwood floor and several hardwood cabinets and counters in the property’s kitchen, dining, and recreational space.

The flooding had caused severe structural damage to the affected areas, weakening the soaked materials and rendering them unusable. Adjacent rooms were also at risk of flood damage and would have suffered the same issues if we hadn’t arrived for repair and restoration services on time.

Project Solution

Using our state-of-the-art water extraction equipment, careful planning, and water damage restoration expertise, we secured the building and fully restored the affected areas.

We started our services by thoroughly inspecting the area and securing the potential hazards. Upon arrival, we noticed that the room’s structural integrity could fail at any moment and that the flood had affected several electrical appliances. Rather than launching into our restoration, we powered down the electricity, removed the failing building materials, and strengthened the weak ones to ensure our and the homeowners’ safety.

After securing the area, we removed the standing water to keep the flood from spreading and creating further water damage. Then, we dried out the water-clogged building materials to preserve them and prevent the homeowner from needing to replace their entire floor.

Once we dried as many items as possible, we thoroughly disinfected all the affected areas. Most flood water contains bacteria that can further destroy hardwood and trigger illness, so we used advanced cleaning solutions to protect the homeowner and their house’s interior. With everything clean and the surfaces dry, we moved on to the final, most demanding step: the water damage restoration.

This job required several repairs on stained, warped hardwood and a handful of replacements, but we managed to complete the project on schedule. Despite the restaining and replacements, our finished work looked on par with how the room appeared before the water damage, and we prevented the water from spreading to other areas.

Project Results

Without our drying services, the homeowner would have needed to fully replace the flooring and cabinets that the water source soaked, which likely would have taken months and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Additionally, without fast water damage restoration action, those materials would have been susceptible to mold growth, which could have caused illness and medical expenses.

Instead, our team quickly completed the work to the customer’s satisfaction at a much lower cost than installation services. Though it wasn’t an easy job, we made the room safe to use and looking as good as it did pre-flood.
