From Watery Chaos to Restoration: The Homestar Group's Silver Ridge Journey
Oct 17, 2023

No matter the water source or when flooding strikes, water damage can result in devastating losses. From a burst pipe to storm-related flooding, water can destroy homes and commercial buildings in what seems like no time at all.

For this reason, access to dependable,  professional water damage cleanup and restoration  remains critical. Below, you’ll read about how our team at The Homestar Group took on a flood-damaged home in Silver Ridge and you will learn about the water damage restoration process.

Project Description

In March of 2022, The Homestar Group worked with a private property owner experiencing severe water damage in Residential Silver Ridge. Torrential rains in the area caused a small waterway to overrun an embankment and flood the first floor of the client’s home.

All rooms on the first floor received floor-height water damage, with standing water present in the home for nearly 24 hours. In addition, organic debris and trash had floated into the property. In some areas, the carpet and underlying padding were soaked and stained.

Project Solution

As with every water damage restoration project, our team from The Homestar Group went to work quickly, beginning with the first stage of our restoration process.

  • Inspections and Estimates

Restoration experts from The Homestar Group began by thoroughly inspecting the client’s property and noting any standing water, dangerous areas, as well as all drying and sanitation needs.

As always, we worked with the property owner to determine the best plan for total water damage restoration, incorporating the owner’s schedule and other concerns into the project parameters.

Our estimates predicted around two weeks of total work from start to finish, including water removal, cleanup, and reconstruction where necessary.

  • Water Removal, Drying, and Dehumidification

Our restoration team used specialized equipment to safely lift all contaminated water from corners of rooms, under cabinets, carpets, and other affected areas. After water extraction and disposal, we employed heaters, fans, and dehumidifying equipment in every room.

The drying and dehumidification process took several days, with carpeted rooms taking the longest to dry. While these areas completed drying, our team was able to begin the cleanup phase in other areas of the property, saving time for our client.

  • Cleanup, Debris Removal, and Sanitization

Next, our crew removed all debris from the damaged areas, including garbage, dirt, limbs, and other organic matter. Next, we used sanitizing chemicals to destroy any residual bacteria, pathogens, or other hazards that may have permeated into porous surfaces.

  • Restoration and Reconstruction

After removing water, drying, and sanitizing all affected areas, our team began repairing structural damage. We removed and replaced damaged carpeting and underpadding, restored electrical outlets for use, applied drywall where necessary, and replaced baseboards.

  • Project Finalization

After our team completed water extraction, drying, and restoration throughout every affected area, we performed a final inspection with the client, reviewing all actions taken and discussing the results.

Project Results

Drying and dehumidification worked in stages during this project due to the need to dry and replace the carpet. This tiered restoration meant we could restore some sections of the property before moving on to others.

Thanks to the cooperation of our client and our experienced team, The Homestar Group was able to restore this water-damaged property ahead of schedule and to our client’s complete satisfaction. As a result, the area was safe for our client to reinhabit in just ten days.
