A Case of a Flooded Kitchen in a Covington Home
Jul 11, 2022

At The Homestar Group, residential water damage restoration is one of our most requested services. It’s an essential element in the fire damage restoration process. Every year, we fix hundreds of garages, kitchens, and dining areas with moisture problems from fire and smoke damage.

This case study features a home that did not require soot removal, duct cleaning, or requesting a damage report from the fire department. However, it was a challenging job for our crew, nonetheless.

Hiring a water damage restoration company like The Homestar Group to deal with a leak is your best defense against mold, mildew, and rot that could cause thousands of dollars in property damage. According to recent consumer figures, over 14,000 Americans find damage from undiscovered sources of moisture or leaks in their home every day. About 98% of commercial and residential basement levels will incur water damage that will require remodeling.

If you’re looking for an expert water damage restoration crew that’s cost-efficient, punctual, and can oversee a project from start to finish without missing minor details, call our customer service hotline today. The job we did for this client from Flowers Road, Covington, is one of our highlights for 2022.

Project Description

We applaud this client for calling us immediately after noticing flooding in their kitchen. Most people are quick to look for stopgaps and temporary solutions that only result in more involved jobs for our technicians. They saw water pooling on their kitchen floor, so they shut off their primary water valve and asked our technicians to perform a preliminary inspection.

We arrived at their residence and saw that their tile floors, wood cabinetry, and countertops were still wet from the flooding. During our initial inspection, we thought of saving these installations. However, most of their cabinetry did not have well-maintained water-resistant coatings. The process of drying out wet wood and reusing it risks mold infestations.

The flooding also left visible marks on the kitchen walls. We knew that if we dehumidified the kitchen without reapplying paint, the walls would bubble. As a result, they would become challenging to clean when all the appliances and tables were back in their original places.

Project Solution

This water damage restoration project was going to be straightforward, and we asked the client if we could help them with their insurance claims. Many home insurance policies cover accidental leaks from heaters, valves, and other installations that are still under warranty. As the first inspectors on the scene, we could help them converse with insurance adjusters to help fulfill their claims.

Our team of technicians had to break out our industrial dehumidifiers to eliminate 100% of the humidity and moisture in the kitchen before starting clean-up. We did not have to use masks with HEPA filters or spray mold-killing surfactants because the kitchen had no mold spores.

We uninstalled the kitchen cabinets and eliminated all moisture from the walls, floors, and other flood-affected materials. We replaced the cabinetry with the exact make and model, and installed new granite countertops. We also repainted the lower sections of the walls, returning them to pre-flooding conditions.

Project Results

This client is a first-time customer, and they loved our speed and cost-efficiency. They had their kitchen back in under one week and said they look forward to working with us again should the need arise. Their new granite countertops, wood cabinetry, and kitchen paint job will last a lifetime with proper maintenance.
