Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is located in Marietta, GA, just northwest of Atlanta. The park spans over 2500 acres and features various monuments as well as notable artifacts from the Civil War, such as the Peach Orchard Flag. Visitors can take in beautiful views of the surrounding terrain and learn about important historical events at this large park. The park is also home to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Monument, which commemorates the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain and the Battle of Atlanta.

The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, also known as the Battle of Gilgal Church, was fought on June 27th and June 28th, 1864, and ended with a Confederate victory. The battle itself broke out when Union forces arrived to capture the town of Marietta, which would give them access to the railroad lines in the area. The Confederate forces, commanded by General Joseph Johnston, were dug in on Kennesaw Mountain and refused to give up the town. The Union forces, under the command of General William Tecumseh Sherman, were eventually forced to retreat after suffering heavy losses. The battle was one of the last major engagements before the fall of Atlanta and was a significant Confederate victory.

Today, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park memorializes the thousands of soldiers that lost their lives during this battle and others in 1864. The park features a visitor's center with exhibits about the battles fought at Kennesaw Mountain and throughout the state of Georgia. The park is open year-round and offers ranger-led tours of the battlefield as well as self-guided tours. Visitors can also hike the park's trails, picnic, and fish. Visitors can also take a tour of the battlefield itself, with guides available to answer questions and tell stories about the war. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a great place to learn about Civil War history and experience a preserved battlefield.
