The Marietta Museum of History is a museum in the Cobb County Civic Center Complex, which also consists of a performing arts theater and an outdoor amphitheater. This museum was originally named the Old Soldiers' Home because that building served as a veteran's retirement home from 1895 to 1941. The outside exhibits show artifacts from this location before it was abandoned during World War II. The exhibits were created by the Marietta Historical Society and Friends of the Marietta Museum of History in 2009 to help people learn about the building's history before it became a museum.

The inside exhibits celebrate the founding and citizens of Marietta, which is one of Georgia's oldest cities. The displays include art and artifacts that date back to the early 1800s. Today, the museum hosts special exhibits that change twice a year. Many of these exhibits focus on life in Georgia throughout history.

The museum has four permanent exhibitions: the "Wormeley Collection," the "Centennial Exhibit," "Southern Belles and Sweethearts," and "Oglethorpe's Guns." The Oglethorpe exhibition contains weapons used by James Oglethorpe's soldiers in the Battle of Bloody Marsh. The "Wormeley Collection" has 22 original paintings by Ralph Wormeley, as well as other period furniture and an 1825 pianoforte that he gave to his daughter Susan. There are also items from the family's China Trade business on display.

The "Centennial Exhibit" recaps the city's centennial celebrations, including items on loan from the Atlanta History Center and photos by Philip Eliasoph, who took pictures of the events. The "Southern Belles and Sweethearts" exhibit features wedding dresses and accessories. This is a replica of an exhibit that was shown in Savannah, Georgia.

If you're ever in the Atlanta area, be sure to check out the Marietta Museum of History. It's a great way to learn about the city's history and see some amazing quilts!
