Project Description

Many homeowners opt to avoid paying attention to the early signs of plumbing problems rather than dealing with them. However, the water heater in this home began to exhibit a few telltale signs that something was going wrong before causing an emergency.

While the homeowners had a rude awakening, our technicians spotted a few spots on the floor where water stagnated before the flood occurred. But most water heaters live away from human sightlines, so we cannot blame our clients for missing the water leak.

If a water heater emits a hissing sound after turning on, it may indicate that the pressure relief valve is close to failing, which is the case in this job. The homeowners began to notice flooding in the living room before seeing that water had compromised their entire first floor. Most of their home floors consisted of hardwood, so when we arrived on the scene for the assessment, we knew this project would entail a lot of detailed work.

They rushed to turn off the power and called us, which was the right thing to do.

Project Solution

The homeowners called us just in time. Their wooden foundations and floor planks were starting to swell from the moisture when we arrived, but we mitigated the damage to the top layer. We unloaded our industrial dehumidifiers and saved their baseboards from water damage.

We opened every door and window on their first floor to let dry air in and help us eliminate 100% of the moisture. When the job site was dry, we replaced the floors with new engineered wood planks, which are water and mold-resistant. We also repainted the base trim and replaced the drywall.

We had to remodel the entirety of the first-floor area, making this one of the most extensive remodeling jobs in our portfolio from the Tucker area. Our customers saw an opportunity to improve their interior aesthetics and had us repaint the kitchen, living room, and laundry room. In addition, we replaced all the flood-damaged drywall and put on a fresh coat of waterproof paint, protecting the home from future mold, mildew, and other fungal infestations.

The Result

Our clients were happy with their new first floor and relieved that the flood did not damage any expensive appliances. They plan to make this house their forever home, but if they ever put it on the market, our remodeling job gave it a healthy price boost. We also repaired the broken heater after guaranteeing that no trace of the water heater leak remained in the unseen corners of the home.
